Fabian Lopez- Sleeping Pills, 48x36", oil on canvas |
Artspace Liberti is proud to present its May/June exhibition, Sleepwalkin’, paintings and drawings by
Fabian Lopez. This exhibition runs from May 4 – June 16, 2012. The reception
for Mr. Lopez will be held on Friday,
May 4, from 6:30-9:30PM.
Lopez connects his work to storytelling and how the fallibility
of memory can benefit the individual. He
approaches his work in a manner similar to that of a writer creating a memoir
or in the way his family tells stories to recount their personal history. The failure to recall fact or specific detail
can free the artist to construct something that is new, indebted to the past
but not shackled by it. As Lopez states:
“… my paintings and drawings are not complete stories,
rather the interest in creating semi fictional narratives through vignettes and
documentations of stories and places within my work is to recount, compare, and
then contrast my experiences within multiple locations and destinations which
have similarities to one another.”
An essay by Jeffrey Ryan will accompany this exhibition.
Fabian Lopez lives and works in Philadelphia, PA. He holds an MFA in Painting from the Tyler
School of Art. Mr. Lopez has both
curated exhibitions and exhibited in his own work in the Los Angeles and
Philadelphia areas. He has been awarded
residencies at the Vermont Studio Center and the Algarden Artist Residency in
Sweden.
